Newsflash: Nivea & SISTER2sister

I think the majority of us have heard of beauty brand Nivea – but if you’re like me, and had not heard of the charity program SISTER2sister it’s time to start listening. SISTER2sister is a 12-month program that provides support for teenage girls at risk of abuse and/or neglect, or for those who have faced challenging experiences due to circumstances beyond their control. This personal development program sees ‘little sisters’ matched with a ‘big sister’ mentor who help these troubled teenage girls recognise and reach their full potential. Nivea have been helping out the foundation in various ways, including a recent Sex and the City fundraising event where 1600 people attended and $28,000 was raised. Please do take the time to read more about the SISTER2sister program at the Life Changing Experiences website. You can donate to the organisation on the sidebar, or even offer your volunteer services. I honestly think this is a really incredible project and would love if it you guys could take a look.

Product Review: Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser

What is great about this product…

This moisturiser has been an absolute god send to my rather neglected body as of late. As winter comes to an end I’m finding that I am on the hunt for super rich and nourishing body moisturisers, and so far this one takes the cake. It is one of the richest body moisturisers that I have stumbled across that doesn’t label itself as a body butter. “Ingredients naturally found in the skin are harnessed and then combined with an intensely rich and creamy Vitamin E and Almond Oil formulation.” I can really notice (and quite enjoy) the almond oil factor in the lotion. It has that added richness and depth that I usually accustom to a body oil. It is very thick and very creamy, but sinks into skin almost instantly. I love the way my skin looks and feels after using this product, it has a very healthy glow about it and feels very hydrated and moisturised. The price point is very reasonable, with the Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser retailing for $5.40 AUD for 250ml $7.99 AUD for 400ml. After a week of using this product at night before bed, my skin has lost it’s winter dryness and looks prepped and ready for spring/summer!

What is not so great about this product…

I can’t quite describe the smell (I’m sure you know by now how bad I am at scent descriptions) but whatever it is, I’m not sure I like it. It is quite overwhelming, and the fragrance seems to linger for quite a while after application. Which normally would be a good thing, if I liked the smell! That is the only downside to the moisturiser that I could find, and smell is always a personal preference, so I will still rate the product rather high.

My Rating: 7.5/10

The Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Moisturiser is available for purchase nationally in supermarkets, selected pharmacies and major retail outlets.

Newsflash: Nivea Sun Ultra Beach Protect

For my fellow Australians, it’s nearly that time of year where we need to start thinking seriously about sun care. Now, I won’t go off on a tangent on how important it is to wear sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY because I’m sure you’ve heard it all a million times. If not, feel free to email me and I will give you the rundown. Nivea are set to release “Ultra Beach Protect SPF30+” in October 2010. Did you know your exposure the sun’s UV rays can be up to 25% stronger on the beach due to sand and water reflection? With that in mind, Nivea Sun, worldwide number one in sun care introduces Nivea Sun Ultra Beach Protect SPF30+, for ultra tough protection. The Ultra Beach Protect contains specially formulated UV filters that help improve your skin’s natural defence against the nasty rays that you are subjected to every day. There is 4 hours water resistancy, which is handy for those like me who are in and out of the water constantly when at the beach! The product also contains rich moisturisers to help alleviate skin from the “dry and tight feeling caused by heat and water”. The Nivea Sun Ultra Beach Protect retails for $13.95 AUD and will be available in October from leading pharmacies.

Product Review: Nivea’s Invisible For Black & White Deodorant

I’ve not seen many reviews of deodorant in the blogsphere which surprises me a bit because it’s such a necessity. Especially in Australia where you can break a sweat just by breathing. Glamourous! The Nivea Invisible For Black & White deodorant is designed not to show stains on both white and black clothing (as the name would suggest), which is great for me as my wardrobe is almost exclusively black. (“I’ll stop wearing black when they invent a darker colour.”) I know that the deodorant doesn’t stain because it passed my “get changed 50 times in one morning because nothing bloody works” test last casual Friday. I pulled on and off various black blouses only to find that none of them had stained. Brilliant. It also does a good job of keeping perspiration at bay and smells fresh and clean like deodorant should. The Nivea Invisible For Black & White Deodorant retails for $4.99 AUD and is available for purchase from supermarkets and pharmacies nation wide. (note: I was sent this product for consideration for review)

Product Review: Nivea Fragrance Free Cleansing Wipes

Face wipes have two purposes: 1) Making things easier for me when I make a half-assed attempt at cleaning my face before crawling into bed on nights where I just can’t be bothered and 2) Making things easier for me when I make a half-assed attempt at cleaning my face when I’m on holiday. I love a dry wipe, and these ones by Nivea have just the right amount of moisture to suit my fussy face-wipe tastes. The Nivea fragrance free wipes are my holy grail wipes because they do a decent job of removing my makeup (although I am yet to find one that removes anything as well as my ol’ faithful – Cetaphil) and they cause no irritation or redness in my skin whatsoever. The Nivea Fragrance Free Facial Cleansing Wipes are currently available for purchase from Chemist Warehouse for $6.39 AUD.

Lip Week Day 2 – Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream & Unscented

I use a lot of lip balm. I have one that I use before going to bed at night, one that I use before applying my makeup in the morning, one on my desk at work to use throughout the day and one floating around in my handbag somewhere for when I’m out and about. The Nivea Lip Butters fit nicely into all of these scenarios, although I do prefer to use the unscented version before applying my makeup in the morning. Both are thick and buttery soft and leave my lips feeling nicely moisturised. The unscented version is genuinely unscented (I have been fooled by this before), and the caramel cream smells AMAZING. Sweet but not in a sickening way. The only issue I have with these is the packaging. For the most part I love the little tins, they’re attractive and feel nice to the touch but they’re kind of hard to open because they’re so thin. Once you work out a technique for opening them (or perhaps you’re not all hamfisted oafs like me) they’re easy enough to work with. The Nivea Lip Butters retail for $5.19 AUD each (currently 25% off at Priceline by the way) and are available for purchase at pharmacies throughout Australia.
